So….Why Does Film Feel So Intimidating?
Not because it’s impossible to learn.
But because there’s a lot of information, a lot of opinions, and not always a lot of clear, beginner-friendly education.
Maybe you’ve:
Picked up a film camera and immediately realized you had absolutely no idea what to do next
Tried a roll or two and gotten back dark, inconsistent, or questionable scans
Watched a few YouTube videos and somehow ended up more confused than when you started
Felt like everyone explaining film assumes you already know the terminology already
Film Photography does word differently than digital.
But it does not need to feel nearly as complicated as some people make it sound.
Learn Film Without the Gatekeeping
Film Photography Made Simple was created to help you understand how to shoot film in a way that actually makes sense. Instead of throwing technical jargon at you and hoping for the best, this course walks you through the entire process step by step while explaining not just what to do, but why it matters. Because understanding the “why” is what actually builds confidence. Whether you want to casually shoot film for fun or fully incorporate it into your photography workflow, this course gives you the foundational knowledge to start confidently.

Hi, I’m Melissa.
I’m a New England-based professional photographer, educator, and one of the co-founders of The Framed Focus.
I’ve been running my photography business for over 10 years, photographing weddings, families, newborns, and branding sessions. I’ve also been a photography educator for the past five years, helping photographers grow their skills (and businesses) through online courses and in-person workshops.
My photography journey actually started on film, long before digital became the norm, and over the years I’ve found my way back to it both personally and professionally. These days, I regularly shoot both 35mm and medium format film alongside digital work, and I still genuinely love the slower, more intentional process that film brings.
When I’m not behind a camera, I’m usually keeping up with my three teenage boys, planning our next trip, or pretending I’m going to organize my film drawer.
