Hidden Depths: The Art of Layering, Overlays & Multiple Exposures
We take photographs to capture fleeting moments in time and tell captivating stories. We want our images to convey how those moments looked and truly felt as they happened. Although a photograph is just a two dimensional representation of our world, we can create the illusion of depth in our images. We can make them come alive, evoke emotion and inspire energy through how we use light, perspectives, colour, texture, blur and creativity.
In Hidden Depths, instructor Abi Coop shows us how we can use the composition technique of layering in a variety of ways with camera settings, natural elements, light, people and objects to shoot through. She reveals her methods for making overlays and how these can be used to give that extra wow factor to your images. She explains in technical detail how to tell an even deeper story through your imagery by creating multiple exposures both in photo editing software and in-camera. She also includes her thinking process, as well as practical steps, as she walks through three different multiple exposure examples.
