Storytelling For The Chaotic Life - with Samantha Deakin

$29.00

In this course, Sam takes us through her process of creating beautiful lifestyle images, taking us behind the scenes in less than ideal surroundings - cluttered rooms, small spaces, renovation chaos, and busy outdoor areas. She shows us how to use creative thought processes to build a concept from inspiration to fruition. She then explores a variety of techniques and tricks including composition, perspective, light, and editing to manipulate, disguise, and camouflage unsightly or unwanted parts of your images.

This course is for you if:

  • You often find it difficult to balance “real life” with the finished and polished images you envisage and you would like tips on how to create consistently high quality, print-worthy photographs.

  • You’d like ideas on how to manipulate the properties of light to your advantage when the circumstances you find yourself in are less than ideal.

  • You’re a beginner/intermediate photographer looking for an easy to understand and methodical approach to taking lifestyle photographs.

  • You want to learn how to add some extra magic to your images. Sam will show you how you can make images that are visually compelling with strong storytelling elements.

  • You fancy having some fun experimenting with different angles and perspectives but don’t know where to start.

  • You’re keen to explore the elements of a “fake it till you make it” approach and push the boundaries of your creativity.

What's included:

  • 41-page downloadable PDF packed full of useful information

  • 8 videos covering:

    • behind-the-scenes walk-through with Sam and her daughter as they set up and shoot a conceptual portrait;

    • start-to-finish edit in Lightroom and Photoshop looking specifically at manipulation and enhancement of light; and

    • 6 tutorial-style edits teaching chaos controlling techniques including cloning, healing, head swaps, compositing, sky replacement, canvas extension, smoothing backdrops, gentle skin retouching, black-and-white conversion, three different ways to colour change, and more!

  • 3 creative exercises

  • BONUSES:

    • Calming the Chaotic Mind PDF guide to help you learn to manage chaotic thoughts.

    • Plan of Action PDF planner to download, print, and populate to help you plan your own concepts.

    • The White Project Re-Visited PDF guide, and a blast from the past look at Sam’s iconic paper white image collection

    • Back Button Focus (BBF Your New BFF) PDF guide to this revolutionary shooting technique.

    • Overlays & Video - 3 of Sam’s favourite, versatile overlays from her own collection with a bonus editing video illustrating how to use these practically to enhance your own work.

What people are saying…

“Already obsessed with this course! Loving the video about smoothing the backdrops. I don’t have a clear wall anywhere in my house for photo backdrops. I’ve been using a couple of Kate backdrops, but they always look like what they are… backdrops. Going to go on the hunt for material that I like and use it to DIY a wall! Learning so much! Thank you!” ~ Claire Cook
